About Green Cardigan

Green Cardigan was created to help parents make sense of School Can't without pressure, blame or burnout.  We understand how overwhelming it can feel when school stops working and every option seems risky.  Our goal is to help families move from confusion and crisis toward clarity, confidence and practical next steps.

Because Parents Need More Than Information

Many parents arrive here after:
• Endless Google searches
• School meetings
• Psychology appointments
• Facebook groups
• Conflicting advice
• Attendance pressure

They don't need more opinions.

They need:
• Clarity
• Structure
• Frameworks
• Confidence in their decision-making

There's no shortage of advice out there.  However, much of it is built on the assumption that your child won't engage, rather than recognising when they they can't.  This distinction changes everything.

Green Cardigan exists to bridge the gap between information and implementation.

Helping Parents Navigate School Can't With Greater Confidence

We help parents:
  • Understand what may be contributing to school distress
  • Reduce overwhelm and cognitive load
  • Communicate more effectively with schools
  • Make informed decisions about attendance and support
  • Feel less alone while navigating complex situations

Frameworks, Not More Opinions

Trauma-informed pathways for you and your family.

#1 Neuro-affirming

We recognise that every child's experience is different and avoid one-size-fits-all solutions.

#2 Lived-experience

Our work is grounded in the realities families face when school attendance becomes difficult.

#3 Practical Frameworks

We focus on helping parents understand what to do next, not simply providing more information

#4 Implementation Support

We help bridge the gap between understanding and action.

Understand Our Boundaries

Green Cardigan is not:
• Ongoing Therapy
• Crisis mental health intervention
• Legal advocacy
• School consultancy
• Behaviour compliance training
• A quick-fix attendance solution

Our role is to provide education, support, frameworks and guidance that help parents make informed decisions, giving the power back to them to take their next best step.

Parents and Professionals Working Together

Green Cardigan was created to be the support we wish we'd had on our own school can't journeys.  A place where parents can access practical guidance from experienced counsellors, compassionate support and a community of parents who truly understand what they're going through.
Katrina Gilliland - Founder
Katrina has supported her two ND daughters through mainstream education, and understands firsthand the profound impact school distress can have on an entire family.

Professionally, Katrina has implemented new platforms for national training organisations, launched online psychology practices, and is thrilled she can now use these skills in her own business to help families with something so close to her heart.
Kristy Collis - Founder
Kristy is a mother of two school-aged boys whose experiences have shaped her deep commitment to parent-led advocacy and education.

After a 20-year career in media, she found her passion in the parent training space in 2021, redesigning parenting programs that were delivered to more than 3,000 families.  Her goal is to help parents navigate the challenges of school can't with greater clarity and confidence.
Sophie Shannon - Counsellor
Sophie is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a particular passion for supporting families navigating School Can’t, school distress and neurodivergence.

A significant focus of Sophie's work is supporting parents and carers of children experiencing Emotional-Based School Avoidance (EBSA), often referred to as School Can’t.  She understands the profound impact school attendance difficulties can have on the whole family and works collaboratively with parents to better understand what may be contributing to their child's distress, strengthen family relationships and identify practical supports and next steps.

At the heart of Sophie’s approach is a commitment to creating a safe, non-judgemental, and supportive space where parents feel heard, understood, and empowered.
Bel Fin - counsellor
Bel is a Clinical Psychotherapist (Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy, ACA Level 3).

Her clinical training spans attachment-based therapy, somatic and nervous system approaches, family systems therapy, and perinatal mental health. She works extensively with parents, supporting them through the stress, identity shifts, and relational strain that come with raising children at every age and stage, including the particular pressures of supporting a child who is struggling to attend school.

Bel's approach is relational and practical: working with what's happening in the room, in the body, and in the patterns that repeat across a family system, rather than staying at the level of advice alone.
